The Magic Habit helps you keep up meditation and small daily habits — no pressure, no judgment.
Outcome
I took the app from idea to Google Play entirely solo: design, React Native development, localization into 28 languages via an automated DeepL pipeline, and a paid tier running on RevenueCat. The app has been maintained and updated steadily since launch.
Problem
Most habit apps turn practice into a KPI dashboard: long streaks, dense charts, relentless notifications. Missing a single day feels like failure — and users abandon the app entirely.
The problem isn't discipline. It's how heavy it feels to come back.
Research
Drawing on my own meditation practice and watching users of similar apps, three things stood out:
- The shorter the start ritual, the higher the retention — one tap should begin a session.
- People come back for how it feels, not out of fear of losing a streak.
- The niche (meditation + minimal habits) sits empty between apps that are too simple and too complex.
Product System
The app is built on the principle that gentleness is a feature: a minimal Material Design 3 interface, every core action within one tap, and interface copy that never scolds.

Learnings
Shipping solo teaches the whole lifecycle
From idea to app store, no step can be "someone else's job" — the most practical lesson in product-building there is.
Automate what repeats
Localizing into 28 languages is only feasible as a pipeline, not a manual chore. Investing in automation early made every later update nearly free.
Emotion is a spec
"How does this app make someone feel when they return after a week away?" — that question shaped the product more than any feature list.
